DHANUSHA, Aug 28: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has urged the government to hold talks with the concerned bodies in a bid to resolve the problems facing sugarcane farmers for a long.
Farmers demanding payment of sugarcane stop sugar exports
During a brief conversation with the media at Janakpur Airport on Thursday, General Secretary Thapa suggested that the government should gather opinions from various sectors to better understand the demands of sugarcane farmers. He emphasized that the farmers' request for a higher price for their produce is legitimate.
Thapa also expressed concerns over the Ministry of Agriculture's refusal to provide the Rs 70 per quintal subsidy for sugarcane to farmers. He emphasized that the challenges faced by farmers cannot be ignored and that timely discussions are essential to resolve these issues. On a different note, the NC leader made it clear that, despite some differences between the NC and UML, a change in the current government cannot be imagined at this time.
