KATHMANDU, July 5: Vyas Jyanti, which is popularly known as Guru Purnima, is being observed across the country, paying homage to teachers and gurus on Sunday.
Asadh Sukla Purnima in the lunar calendar is celebrated as Vyas Purnima or Guru Purnima by the followers of Hinduism as well as others every year.

The celebration signifies the birth anniversary of sage Ved Vyas, the legendary author of Mahabharat, Vedas and Puranas . It is believed that the Lord Gautam Buddha also began preaching his disciples on this day.
Gurus are honored and worshipped with gifts, delicious delicacies, fruits and many more as a part of the celebration.
