Guru Purnima also known as Vyas Jyanti is celebrated on Asadh Sukla Purnima every year. This year it is being observed on Sunday. According to Prof. Beena Poudyal, Ph.D and Ex HoD NeHCA, Tribhuvan University there are various significance of Purnima (Full moon) in Nepali society where Asadh Sukla Purnima has its own importance. She says, "Guru Purnima is also the day that marks the birth anniversary of sage Ved Vyas. He is the one who is known as the author of Mahabharat and has contributed for the works like Vedas and Puranas."
