Gurkha soldier from Nepal killed in Pak firing in Jammu and Kashmir

KATHMANDU, July 10: A Gurkha soldier serving in the Indian Army was killed in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Nowshera Sector in Rajouri District (J&K) early morning Friday. The deceased has been identified as Havildar Sambur Gurung of Gorkha district.

KATHMANDU, July 10: A Gurkha soldier serving in the Indian Army was killed in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Nowshera Sector in Rajouri District (J&K) early morning Friday. The deceased has been identified as Havildar Sambur Gurung of Gorkha district.


Indian media reports said Gurung died while undergoing treatment at a local military hospital after receiving a bullet injury. The 27-year old Gurung is a permanent resident of Manbu village of Aarughat Rural Municipality in Gorkha district.

Gurung is the second Nepali Gurkha soldier serving in the Indian army to be killed in Pakistani army’s firing in less than a month. Earlier on June 22, Indian army soldier Havildar Dipak Karki of Gulmi district was killed in the same place.
