KATHMANDU, July 28: The government has decided to promote Deputy Inspectors Generals (DIGs) Niraj Shahi and Pradhyumna Karki to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police.
A cabinet meeting held at the official residence of Prime Minister K P Oli in Baluwatar on Monday evening made a decision to this effect, according to a cabinet minister.
Madhu Kumar Marasini appointed as finance secretary
Earlier on July 15, a Promotion Committee led by the home secretary had recommended the names of Shahi and Karki for the two vacant posts of AIG. While Shahi is currently serving as the spokesperson, Karki heads the Special Bureau of Nepal Police.
Both Shahi and Karki are batchmates of the newly-appointed Inspector General of Police Shailesh Thapa Kshetri. Both of them have earned accolades for their sterling performance while discharging their duties.
The promotion of Shahi and Karki to the post of AIG has been seen with much importance within the police organization as one of them will be appointed as the chief of Nepal Police after the retirement of the incumbent police chief Kshetri after his four-year term.
Similarly, the government has promoted Joint Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini as Secretary of the Government of Nepal (GoN). The cabinet meeting also appointed Buddhi Bahadur Karki as General Manager of the state-owned Radio Nepal and Ramesh Kumar Silwal as a member-secretary and Shiba Koirala as Vice President of National Sports Council.
