KATHMANDU, May 22: The committee under Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Development and Local Development Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar has recommended adding 23 local levels of Tarai districts including up gradation of two sub-metropolises to metropolises. The council of ministers is expected to endorse the recommendations.
The meeting of the committee on Monday decided to upgrade two sub-metropolises of Parsa and Morang adjacent to Indian borders.
The Local Level Restructuring Committee with the capacity of constitutional bodies had earlier recommended constituting 719 local levels across the countries.
This decision came from the government to convince the Tarai-Madhes based parties defying the election code of conduct.
Earlier, the committee under the then Local Development Minister Hitraj Pandey had recommended adding 25 local levels mostly of Tarai districts.
