Govt appoints 77 Liaison Officers for mountain climbing management for spring season

KATHMANDU, April 26: The government has appointed 77 liaison officers for the management of mountain climbing this season. They will serve as contact officers for various mountain climbing expedition team members.


According to the Department of Tourism, 48 employees from the Ministry of Tourism and its subordinate agencies have been appointed as liaison officers for the spring season of 2024. These liaison officers are required to accompany their climbing teams to the base camp of the mountain.

Throughout the climbing period, they are responsible for staying at the same camp as government representatives and assisting them in climbing management. This time, Khim Lal Gautam from the Survey Department has been appointed as the head of the field office at the Everest base camp.


However, according to details provided by the Department of Tourism on Friday, some liaison officers have not yet been deployed in the field. The Department of Tourism has stated that most of the employees assigned by agencies other than the Ministry of Tourism have not yet reached their designated field assignments.


According to the latest data from the Department of Tourism, 859 individuals from 94 teams have obtained permission to climb 27 mountains for this season. Among them, the highest number of climbers, 388 individuals from 36 teams, received climbing permits for Mount Everest. Liaison officers are tasked with assisting these climbers in climbing management and monitoring their activities.
