Giri clinched three gold and two silver medals while Tamang bagged four golds -- including one from team championship -- one silver and two bronzes.
“We were using make-shift equipments for training but now we have got standard ones due to the Sixth National Games. I hope the performance of the new generation will be much better than ours,” said Giri.[break]
The 26-year-old gymnast from Dhangadhi, who couldn´t continue with his undergraduate course in arts, is looking for glory in sports after failing to find a decent job with his degrees.
“I feel sad that I can´t make living out of my degrees. I am still dependent on my family. I hope my success in gymnastics will help me get a job as a coach in some school,” said Giri, after winning the medals.
Despite Giri´s success in individual and all round events, Central Region finished first with four golds, four silvers and three bronzes because of their team spirit.
Far Western Region was hot on the heels of Central Region with four golds, four silvers and two bronzes out of total eight available golds. Armed Police Force (APF) settled for three bronze medals.
Giri won his first gold in men´s all round championship scoring 35.40 points. Bhakta Bahadur Chaudhary of Far Western Region was second with 33.50 points while Aman Tamang finished third with 32.50 points.
In the individual events, Giri bagged other two golds while Tamang clinched three golds.
Giri scored 2.6 in vaulting event to claim gold. He also finished first in pommel horse scoring 3.9 points. Giri finished second in parallel bars with 9.90 points but his team mate Jitendra Chaudhary claimed gold scoring 10.80 points to keep Far Western Region in contention for the title.
Meanwhile, Tamang won gold in floor exercise with a score of 11.20. His second gold came in horizontal bars with 4.8 points. Tamang then went on to win gold in Roman rings scoring 5.90 points to be on level with Giri with three golds each.
However, Tamang´s team the men´s team championship and top the overall standing ahead of Far Western Region by just one bronze medal.
The Central Region team comprising Asta Narayan Maharjan, Bishnu Batay, Ravi Kumar Khadgi, Satya Narayan Manandhar, Aman Tamang and Bijay Lama scored 138.70 points to win gold.
Far Western Region finished second with 138.41 points.
