The KMC had started dumping the garbage since yesterday following a disruption for over a week due to the strike by the locals. The locals have put forward 40-point demand.
Chief of environment section of KMC Rabin Man Shrestha said the problem resurfaced after the locals once again blocked garbage vehicle from entering the landfill site this morning, saying that they will not allow garbage disposal until the government implemented past agreements.
Two days ago, locals had agreed to allow garbage disposal on condition that the government would meet their demands within a year. However, they disrupted garbage disposal again today, by adding more demands including budget for road and irrigation canal’s maintenance on their demand list, the KMC said.
The capital city is suffering from heaps of garbage poled up at every street due to the failure in disposal for over a week. The city denizens’ problems have been compounded further due to rainfall.
