KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Police have arrested an absconding fugitive on the charges of character assassination of a woman via social media. The arrested individual has been identified as Khagendra Yari, 29, of Gurbhakot Municipality-5, Surkhet.
Police deployed from the Cyber Bureau of the Nepal Police arrested the suspect in coordination with the Tribhuvan International Airport. The arrest was made on the basis of the victim’s complaint for misuse of private photos. The victim reported that she had exchanged private photos with Yari during conversations through Messenger. The suspects shared them to relatives and friends by creating a fake Facebook ID. Yari was arrested while returning to Nepal from overseas employment in Malaysia.
One arrested for character assassination thru social media
He was found to have been involved in the woman's character assassination, while working abroad in Malaysia. A case was registered against him under the Electronic Transactions Act, on May 6, 2022 at the Cyber Bureau. He has since then been listed as absconding, and a Red Notice was issued against him by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). Yari has been presented to the Kathmandu District Court.
