Taxi driver arrested on charge of character assassination remanded into judicial custody for 5 days

KATHMANDU, July 22: Police have arrested Karmawang Singh Lama, a taxi driver from Namobuddha Municipality-5 of Kavrepalanchok district, currently living in Kathmandu, on the charge of character assassination of a gender minority.


According to the cyber bureau of Nepal Police, a case has been filed against Lama for the offense under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008, as he had opened a fake Facebook account of the victim and uploaded photos of the victim. According to the bureau, the investigation against him is continuing after the court remanded him into custody for five days on Thursday.

It has been revealed that he uploaded the photos of the victim on a fake Facebook account and chatted with his friends through messenger and asked for money. According to the bureau, it was found that he also spread rumors about the victim.
