Four ex-NBA chairpersons slam PM Oli for his remarks against senior-most advocate Bhandari

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Four former chairpersons of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Sunday strongly opposed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's remarks denigrating senior-most advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari.

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Four former chairpersons of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Sunday strongly opposed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's remarks denigrating senior-most advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari.


At a public event on Friday last week, the prime minister attacked Bhandari, calling him a “grandpa lawyer” and describing his presence at the ongoing hearing at the Supreme Court as a “farce".

Oli's statement came days after senior-most advocate Bhandari, taking part in the hearing, termed the government's decision to dissolve parliament unconstitutional.


Issuing a press statement, Prem Bahadur Khadka, Sher Bahadur KC, Shambhu Thapa and Harihar Dahal, the four former chairpersons of NBA, stated that slandering the senior-most advocate is a shameful attack on the entire legal profession. They also urged all legal eagles to firmly oppose the attack on their profession and demanded that Oli apologize.


"Oli's remarks are contempt of court as he spoke on a sub judice case at the apex court," they said.


While lambasting Oli's repeated attacks on the judiciary, they also demanded that Oli seek an apology for the same.
