KATHMANDU, June 21: Young people (14-25 years of age) interested in slam poetry and living in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts can apply for the Kathmandu Regional Slam before June 25.

The regional slam is a build up to the ‘QC Awards 2016: National Poetry Slam’ which will be held in September this year. The competition is being organized by Word Warriors in partnership with Quixote’s Cove and is supported by Danish Center for Culture and Development (CKU).

Those selected in the Kathmandu Regional Slam will be taken through a one-day workshop on June 29. The audition will then take place on July 1 in different venues. Top four participants will be selected from the three districts and will be announced as Regional Champions from their respective district. These 12 contestants will go on to compete in the final battle.

The first national poetry slam competition is expected to bring out aspiring young poets from Kathmandu, Kavre, Chitwan, Kaski, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Illam and Kailali districts. Organizers hope to reach at least 12,000 young people directly through the nationwide contest.

Applicants can find the forms at Spoken Word Nepal’s Facebook page.
