Mustang-Korala has lately emerged as an alternative to the land-based bilateral trade with China since Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood hit the main trading gateway on August 26. As per the MCO, 6,501 Electric Vehicles (EVs) imported from China received their customs clearance.

The MCO had collected Rs 8.33 billion in revenue before Dashain i.e. mid-October. In the past 18 days following the festival, the customs office collected an additional Rs 3.12 billion.

The MCO further reported that Chinese goods worth Rs 10.40 billion were imported into Nepal via the Korala crossing before Dashain, with an additional Rs 6.70 billion worth of goods imported after the festival.

According to MCO Chief Singh, both exports and imports through the Korala border have increased due to the complete closure of the Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border points. Following a devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi of Rasuwa, the route was diverted, resulting in the import of goods contained in hundreds of containers through the Korala border.

The festival-focused goods including ready-made garments, cosmetics, electronic devices, industrial raw materials, food grains, fruits and electric vehicles were among the main imported goods. The government brought the northern Nepal-China Korala border point into full operation in mid-September of the last FY.
