KATHMANDU, Aug 22: The chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has stated that the five-year statute of limitations for corruption cases is not acceptable to his party.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Thursday, Lamichhane mentioned that he saw a video circulating on social media regarding this issue, where concerned youth were expressing their worries about the proposed time limit.
Corruption and Statute of Limitations
"A video has been circulating on social media where young people have expressed concern that a five-year statute of limitations is being proposed for corruption cases. They have urged others to be aware. It was mentioned in the video- ‘These people are on the committee, so you should call them.’ I want to thank those vigilant young people who have been continuously making calls," he said.
Noting that the youth suspect that this bill could be passed, Lamichhane emphasized that the five-year time limit for corruption cases is also unacceptable to the RSP.
“‘No if, no but; on this issue, we are clear-cut. A five-year statute of limitations in corruption cases will not be acceptable,” he said. “I had already warned everyone to be vigilant, citing that any kind of situation may arise after the two biggest political parties come to power. Today I am certain about that."
