Nepal imports EVs worth Rs 20 billion in first nine months of current FY

Nepal has imported electric vehicles (EVs) worth nearly Rs 20 billion in the past nine months in the current fiscal year 2024/25.

KATHMANDU, April 20: Nepal has imported electric vehicles (EVs) worth nearly Rs 20 billion in the past nine months in the current fiscal year 2024/25.


According to data from the Department of Customs (DoC), a total of 20,896 EVs were imported during this period, generating Rs 11.92 billion in customs revenue for the country.

According to the DoC, the most imported category of electric vehicles in Nepal are cars, jeeps, and vans with a power range of 51 to 100 kilowatts. A total of 4,414 vehicles in this category were imported, generating Rs 6.94 billion in customs revenue alone. The customs value of these vehicles amounted to Rs 10.94 billion.


Among the imported electric vehicles in Nepal, 4,947 units are unassembled three-wheeler vehicles, with a total customs value of Rs 492.40 million.


According to the data, the highest number of EVs imported in this category is three-wheelers, totaling 7,982 units, with a customs value of around Rs 820 million. In the past nine months, 742 EVs with a power range of 101 to 200 kilowatts were imported into Nepal. These vehicles have a total customs value of approximately Rs 2.56 billion.
