KATHMANDU, March 21: Nepal imported electric vehicles (EVs) worth over Rs 16.65 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year, according to the Department of Customs. A total of 7,089 EVs, including cars, jeeps, and vans, were brought into the country by mid-March, with 833 imported in Falgun alone. The government collected Rs 10.22 billion in revenue from these imports.
EVs with a power capacity of 51-100 kW were the most imported, with 3,879 units worth Rs 9.69 billion, making up 55 percent of total imports. Additionally, 2,540 EVs with up to 50 kW capacity, 654 units with 101-200 kW, 14 with 201-300 kW, and two above 300 kW were imported during the period.

China remained the largest supplier, accounting for 74 percent of the imports, with 5,278 EVs worth Rs 13.09 billion. India followed with 1,775 units worth Rs 3.32 billion, while smaller numbers of EVs were imported from Germany (26), the USA (5), South Korea (3), and Indonesia (1).
