CHITWAN, July 2: Five schools in Chitwan district have reported zero pass rates in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) 2080.

According to the National Examination Board's SEE results released on Thursday, five public schools in the district recorded zero pass rates.

Bhumilal Subedi, chief of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Chitwan, informed Republica that three schools of Ichchha Kamana Rural Municipality, one each of Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Rapti Municipality had zero pass rate.

According to him, Dhunge; Secondary School, Majhgaun; Ramnagar Secondary School of Bharatpur Metropolitan City; and Ganesh Secondary School of Deuralitar, Rapti Municipality, have zero pass rate.

In the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), the results were zero in schools from remote areas. Most of the students studying at these schools are children from the marginalized Chepang community. Ramnagar Secondary School and Ganesh Secondary School had 20 students each appearing in last year’s SEE. Similarly the Dhunge school had 18, Secondary School, Majhgaun had 16, and Janapriya Secondary School had 13 students who appeared in the examination.

In Chitwan district, Narayani Model Secondary School, representing the community, has achieved the highest pass rate among all schools. Subedi said that this school has maintained a pass rate of 90 percent. He mentioned that institutional schools have a better pass rate compared to community schools. "Currently, not all schools have released grades according to the results. Making this public may not be appropriate," Subedi said. "Comparing the results of one school with another school that is also taking entrance exams is also not good." Overall, in Chitwan, 4,791 students have failed this year.

In the district, the pass percentage in this year's SEE is 56 percent. Out of 10,832 students who appeared in the exam in the district, 4,041 students have passed. Despite a lower number of students passing in numerical terms, Subedi mentioned that Chitwan's results have been better qualitatively compared to last year’s.

"Among the passers, 16 students have achieved A+ grades. Last year, only six students in Chitwan had obtained A+ grades. Similarly, there are 1,692 students in the district who have achieved an A. This number has increased by 481 students compared to last year when there were 1,599 students achieving A grades," said Subedi.

Institutional schools dominate in achieving 4.0 GPA scores within the district. While students from 9 institutional schools attained a 4.0 GPA, only two community schools achieved this feat. Specifically, students from Chitwan Secondary School and Balkumari Girls Secondary School in the community sector attained a 4.0 GPA. Students without grades can opt for a Grade Improvement Examination (Supplementary Examination). The government has scheduled this examination to commence from August 2.
