Of the 14 mountain peaks over 8,000 meters recognized in the world earlier, eight peaks including the highest peak Mount Everest are in Nepal.
Of these mountains, two-Kanchenjunga Center (8,473 meters) and Kanchenjunga South (8,476 meters)-are situated on the Nepal-India border.
The third, Kanchenjunga West (Yalung Kang- 8,505 meters), lies within Nepal whereas other two- Lhotse Shar (8,400 meters) and Lhotse Middle ( 8,413) are on the Nepal-China border.
Although the meeting discussed about the proposal floated by Nepal, the proposal was not endorsed as India and Pakistan are yet to give consent to it, said honorary member Sherpa.
The Nepal Government is making efforts to get the proposal endorsed. A next meeting of the Federation going to be held in the United States of America in 2014 AD is likely to endorse the proposal.
A total of 86 countries which are the members of Alpine club are associated with the Federation which is considered as the supreme body for conserving, promoting mountains and formulating policies about mountaineering activities.
An International Mountaineering Conference is scheduled to be held in Nepal next month. The aim of the conference is to convince Nepal and Pakistan to back the proposal, said NMA President Zimba Zangbu Sherpa.
Nepal´s image in the international arena will be highlighted if the proposal is accepted, Sherpa said.
