Speaker Ghimire departs for Uzbekistan for international conferences

The conferences will be held from April 5 to 9 in Tashkent. Speaker Ghimire is scheduled to address the IPU Assembly on the topic ‘Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice.’

KATHMANDU, April 4: Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire has left for Tashkent, Uzbekistan, leading a Nepali delegation to attend the 150th Annual Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Fourth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.


The conferences will be held from April 5 to 9 in Tashkent. Speaker Ghimire is scheduled to address the IPU Assembly on the topic ‘Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice.’

Delegation members include lawmakers Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Anjan Shakya, Suryaman Dong Tamang, Sobita Gautam, Federal Parliament Secretary General Padma Prasad Pandey, House of Representatives Secretary Harkaraj Rai, Chief Personal Secretary to the Speaker Tej Prakash Bhattarai, and Under Secretary Raju Rimal.


Additionally, MPs Shakya and Gautam will participate in forums for women and youth parliamentarians, respectively. Shakya will also present a candidacy for the Asia-Pacific region in the IPU's Standing Committee on Sustainable Development.


Speaker Ghimire will also address the Non-Aligned Movement Summit on April 6 focusing on ‘The Role of Parliaments in Upholding the Bandung Principles on Its 70th Anniversary.’
