RAUTAHAT, Aug. 10: A two-storey wooden house was reduced to ashes after an electrical short circuit sparked a fire in Phatuwa Bijaypur Municipality-10, Dudhiyawa, Rautahat, on Monday morning, destroying property worth more than Rs 1.9 million.
The fire broke out at around 7:45 am at the house of local resident Dipendra Kharel, according to the District Police Office (DPO), Rautahat. The blaze quickly engulfed the house, destroying everything inside.

Police personnel, Armed Police Force personnel and local residents rushed to the scene and attempted to contain the fire. However, they were unable to bring it under control immediately. A fire engine from Kolhabi Municipality in neighboring Bara was then brought in, and the fire was finally extinguished after nearly two hours.
The blaze completely gutted the house, destroying electronic appliances, clothes, furniture and utensils. Around Rs 200,000 in cash and approximately three tolas of gold jewelry, including a necklace and rings, were also destroyed.
Police estimated the total property loss at around Rs 1.9 million.
DSP Basanta Gautam, spokesperson for the DPO, Rautahat, said a preliminary investigation showed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
