Counterfeit Nepali currency smuggling on the rise as election date nears

RAUTAHAT, Nov 11: As the date of the election of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the provincial assemblies is nine days away, the smuggling of counterfeit currency has increased in the district.


A few weeks ago, fake notes were seized in Rautahat and Sarlahi. Rautahat police seized fake notes amounting to Rs 87,000 from the border area of ​​Rautahat and Bara. It has been found that the entire family is involved in the fake note business. Rautahat police arrested three people from the same family in Bara in connection with the incident.

The villagers attacked police personnel after arresting a fake currency dealer. In the clash that ensued between the villagers and the police, nine security personnel including seven policemen and two temporary police personnel were injured. Police said that the police had to fire two rounds in the air in self-defense.


Police have arrested Aadrash Kotwal, Saonu of Paterwa, Anand Kushwaha, Pratima Devi Sinha and Ambita Kumari in connection with the fake currency smuggling.
