“I urge one and all not to raise issues in a negative way without understanding the facts. We solve problems, if there are any, through talks as per the method of our party organization,” said PLA chief Nanda Kishore Pun at the Reporters´ Club today. [break]
There are media reports that the commanders on Sunday seized the paychecks given to combatants, saying they have to donate 40 percent of money to the party, and they severely beat up those who defied the commanders´ fiat.
The PLA chief, however, said that the issue will be settled soon through intra-party talks.
It may be recalled that the Maoist leadership had issued a circular to their commanders directing them to retain 40 percent of the money from the voluntary retirement packages of those who had previously quit the cantonments and were called back during the combatants categorization process.
The main opposition parties Nepali Congress (NC) and UML have strongly objected to the Maoist intention of retaining part of the money meant for the combatants as part of their relief packages.
Pun also claimed that the integration process will move ahead and see completion as per the schedule of the Special Committee.
He disclosed that the PLA has staked claim to the position of second-in-command at the Nepal Army (NA)directorate to be constituted through the integration of 6,500 PLA personnel.
“We want the position of major-general in the NA, which is in accordance with the natural theory of justice,” he said.
He further demanded that the government provide letters of appreciation to the Maoists for their contribution in turning the country into a republic.
