Clubs busy registering players for new season

KATHMANDU, April 12: As the start of the first tournament of new domestic football season - British Gorkha Cup - draws near, clubs and ANFA officials are busy registering players for the new season.



The British Gorkha Cup begins from Saturday and ANFA has asked clubs to register at least 16 players 24 hours prior to their match. [break]



Among 16 A division clubs, 10 teams have registered names of players including three departmental teams -- Nepal Police Club, Nepal Army Club and Armed Police Force (APF).



But some of the stars of Nepali football like striker Santosh Sahukhala, Bharat Khawas, Sagar Thapa, Deepak Bhusal, Bikash Singh Chhetri and others are yet to register their names at ANFA. No foreign players have been registered from any of the teams. All of the departmental teams have register name of more than 16 players.



Machhindra Club, Manang Marshyangdi Club, Jawalakhel Youth Club, Himalayan Sherpa Club, Bansbari Club, New Road Team (NRT) and Sarawati Club are the other teams to register some players. But none of these clubs other than Machhindra Club have registered 16 players.



Big teams of Nepali football like Three Star Club, Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT), Friends, Bauddha, Sankata and Madhyapur Youth Association have not registered a single players.



Police which has registered 30 players has the highest number followed by APF and Army -- 18 each. Machhindra has registered 17 players bringing in eight starting line up players from Jawalakhel´s previous season team. Among 21 players of Jawalakhel, only seven players have struck internal agreement with the club.



Jawalkhel has registered six players, Bansbari one, MMC two, Sherpa eight, NRT 16 and Saraswati 9 players. Though, MMC has submitted names of 11 players at ANFA, documents are yet to arrive. Striker Anil Gurung, Shiva Shrestha, Sujal Shrestha and Bishal Shrestha have renewed their contract with MMC.



In departmental teams, almost all faces are same as the previous season. However, Bharat Khawas is yet to renew contract with Police.
