While students in Aurahi blocked the road initially to demand regular classes 10 days ago, locals of Sarpallo VDC enforced a chakka jam demanding VDC council meeting. No sooner had their chakka jam ended, relatives of a road accident victim and locals in Aurahi have been blocking the road demanding compensation for the victim’s next of kin.
People seeking services from government have not been able to travel to the offices due to the banda, while farmers are the worst affected lot as they have not been able to take their produce to the markets.
Former president of Aurahi VDC Narendra Yadav complained that the police have been doing nothing to open the highway and said that nobody knew for how many days the people would have to suffer due to the strike of a group of people and the negligence of the administration.
However, CDO Sagarmani Poudel said he was making effort to open the highway. He said the resumption of the highway was delayed, as he preferred to end the blockade through talks rather than use force.
Locals in Ramgopalpur, meanwhile, threatened counter-chakka jam and other strong protests if the road closed for the last 11 days was not reopened immediately.
