Anil Thakur, director general of DoC, said market monitoring has formally started from Sunday and added that the traders did not cooperate with the team by shutting their stores before the team reached there for monitoring.

“We have asked owners of the four stores that we inspected on Sunday to furnish details of the commodities that they have in stock and along with existing prices,” Thakur told myrepublica.com.

The team will concentrate on wholesale market in the first phase of market monitoring.

In an effort to curb black marketing and check skyrocketing prices of commodities, the government last week decided to increase market monitoring and inspection.
