KATHMANDU, Aug 5: The bodies of renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, popularly known as “Nimsdai,” and three other climbers who died in an avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak have been brought to the mountain’s base camp.
The development was confirmed by Mingma David Sherpa, Purja’s business partner and a member of Nepal’s House of Representatives. According to him, the bodies of Nirmal Purja, Zhong Wang, Nima Sherpa and Kilu Sherpa were safely recovered and transported to the base camp following a highly challenging rescue operation.

In a social media post, Sherpa thanked the entire rescue team, saying the operation was made possible by their exceptional courage, professionalism and selfless dedication.
He also expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Army, the Government of Pakistan, the Gilgit-Baltistan government, local authorities, the British High Commission, the Nepali Embassy in Pakistan, the Alpine Club of Pakistan and all organizations that supported the rescue mission.
Remembering Purja, Sherpa said he would be remembered not only as a world-renowned mountaineer but also as a husband, father, son, brother, friend and an inspiring leader of Elite Exped, the Nimsdai Foundation, Nimsdai Store and Skydive Nimsdai.
