If the proposed bill is passed, the existing 30-year service period for retirement in the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force will be removed. Currently, the age limit for the IGP is 58 as per the Police Regulations 2071 BS. The new bill proposes to increase that age limit to 60 years.

Meanwhile, the bill has proposed reducing the tenure of the IGP of the police and the APF from four to three years. Additional Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) or Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) have been retiring at the age of 56, but the bill proposes increasing the age limit to 59 years.

The retirement age of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) or Superintendent of Police (SP) has been proposed to be increased to 58 years.

The bill also proposes increasing the retirement age of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Inspectors to 57 years from 54 years.
