Be serious on Gangamaya's demand: Leader Poudel

KATHMANDU, July 4: Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has said it was worrying that the government was ignoring Gangamaya's demand for justice.

KATHMANDU, July 4: Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has said it was worrying that the government was ignoring Gangamaya's demand for justice. 


Visiting Gangamaya at Bir Hospital to take stock of her health condition today, leader Poudel said, "It was worrying indeed that she has been staging strike, demanding justice for her son's murder. If the government continues ignoring her demand, this issue must be taken to public." 


Gangamaya, who has been staging a fast-unto-death strike for over a month, is experiencing health deteriorating day by day. 

Hospital Director Dr Bhupendra Basnet shared that Gangamaya's health was worsening and getting critical.

She has been staging strike repeatedly after then rebellion Maoist party abducted and killed her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari in 2004. Although a FIR was filed at Chitwan District Court, the case was still under consideration, delaying the justice. 


Moreover, her husband Nanda Prasad Adhikari died four years back during the fast-unto-death staged for the justice. 


As she denied performing the last rites of the husband without getting justice over the murder of her son, the dead body is still festering in the mortuary of TU Teaching Hospital. 


HURPES concerned over Gangamaya's health 


Meanwhile, Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) has expressed worry over the deteriorating health condition of Gangamaya. 


A HURPES delegation reached Bir Hospital and garnered information about the status of health condition of Gangamaya. 


General Secretary of HURPES Uttam Pudasaini said, "Government's apathy to implement court decision is condemnable. We urge the government to commit to rule of law and individual freedoms." RSS
