The 69th Venice Film Festival which commences from August 29 and ends on September 8 has three main sections. The 15-minute short film “Bansulli” has been selected for the competitive Orizzonti section.

The Orizzonti section has gathered 18 long and 15 short films. This year, the VFF received 1,752 short films from all over the world but only 18 films have been selected to be screened at the festival, among which “Bansulli” is one.

The film shows the story of a 12-year-old girl named Bijuli from Jumla whose life changes during the election to Nepal’s Constituent Assembly.

The film has been produced by Nischal Basnet, director of the super hit film “Loot,” and Devki Rai. Nischal stated that since the idea appealed to him, he went ahead to produce it.

Director Min, who wrote the script, feels that challenges have increased for him now that his first film has been selected for the prestigious festival. He is grateful for the support of his friends in the production of his film, and states, “The fact that I’m chosen also means that our country is being represented. I believe that this will encourage many new filmmakers.”

The film’s executive producer is Anup Poudel while the cinematography has been done by Narendra Mainali and the editing by Nimesh Shrestha.

Nikita Buda Thapa, Ghana Shyam Giri, Naresh Bhandari, and Hira Bijuli Nepali have also acted in the film.
