ILAM, Sept 25: The much-hyped Visit Nepal 2020 is just three months away but most of the roads leading to major tourist destinations are yet to be repaired. The situation is not different in Province 1, which boasts of having over two dozen tourist destinations.
ILAM, Sept 21: How much does green tea cost? Most people have heard Rs 20, Rs 40, Rs 80 or even Rs 300 a kilogram at the garden. But some farmers in Ilam are selling green tea buds for as high as Rs 1,500 per kilogram. Green tea usually has two leaves and a bud. Industries buy the buds for Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per kilo. The wage for picking up the buds is Rs 500 per kilogram.
ILAM, Aug 11: The oldest school in Ilam district, Adarsha Secondary School, was recently declared a ‘smart school’. The school has a direct connection with Nepali Congress leader Kul Bahadur (KB) Gurung, former spokesperson Subhas Chandra Nemwang and former prime minister Jhalanath Khanal.
ILAM, June 25: Until a decade ago, it would be a taxing job to find a community school that would instruct students in English. As students were gradually switching to private schools to study in English, community schools came under pressure to respond to the demand.
ILAM, April 17: Tea factories in Suryodaya Municipality of Ilam have expressed commitment to implement minimum pay fixed by the government for the time being. Owners of tea factories, however, have said that they will launch protest against the government if their demands are not addressed.
ILAM, March 27: Tea workers of eastern Nepal have announced to launch protest against their employers, demanding implementation of the minimum wage fixed by the government. The indefinite protest will begin from Sunday.
ILAM, Feb 16: After restructuring the government in the new federal setup, a large number of government bodies based in the district headquarters were brought under the jurisdiction of the local government. However, there is still confusion over the authority of the District Public Health Office (DPHO), Ilam.
