ILAM, March 20: As the world struggles to cope with poverty, starvation, illiteracy, urbanization as a result of rapid and unmanaged population growth, Ilam Municipality has decided to encourage its residents to give birth to more children.
ILAM, March 16: Two years ago, Ganesh Gurung of Mabu village in Ilam district purchased a second-hand Land Rover for Rs 800,000. He operated the vehicle as public transport on the Majhuwa-Ilam road section. So far, he said he has managed to earn Rs 300,000 from the vehicle.

ILLAM, Dec 26: Jubiliant Elite Academy, with the initiation of its students, organized a cultural exhibition at the school premises on Saturday and Sunday. The exhibit featured household materials that were used in the villages in ancient times.
ILAM, Dec 26: Salakpur in Rong Rural Municipality Ward 6 of Ilam district was considered to be hub for orange farming. But not even one decade after the village started farming oranges, 90 percent of the orange trees have dried out.
ILAM, Dec 10: Candidates of the left alliance comprising CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) have emerged victorious over their opponents with huge margin of votes in Ilam. Despite claiming several victories in the past elections, Nepali Congress (NC)'s influential leaders have failed to repeat the feat this time.
Ilam, Dec 7: CPN- UML senior leader Subash chandra Nemwang and Jhala Nath Khanal cast thier votes in Ilam. Nemwang, who is also ex-speaker of Parliamentary Assembly cast his vote in Balmindir polling center in district headquarter Ilam. Nemwang is contesting from Ilam-2.
ILAM, Dec 3: Preparations are underway to send election materials to designated voting centers in Ilam for the election on December 7. “We are extremely busy to transport election materials,” Prem Kumar Kafle, district election officer said adding that by tomorrow (Monday), all voting centers would have the election materials. ILAM, Nov 27: Ballot boxes from several polling booths of Panchthar and Taplejung districts have already been brought to the center. However, it might take one more day for the security forces to bring the boxes from remote zones.
ILAM, Nov 11: After registering his candidacy on November 2, former speaker of parliament Subas Chandra Nembang headed straight to ashram of Kirat religious leader Aatma Nanda Lingden in Larumba (Mangsebung Rural Municipality) of Ilam district. He received blessings from the guru, which marked the beginning of his election campaign.
ILAM, Nov 9: Candidate of then CPN (Maoist) Bishwadip Lingden defeated CPN-UML leader K P Sharma Oli when the slogans of identity politics raised by the Maoists held sway all across the villages back during the first Constituent Assembly polls in 2008. Lingden's success in defeating Oli in Jhapa by a wide margin of over 5,000 votes drew national attention.
