SILIGURI (INDIA), Sept 24: Tourism entrepreneurs of Mechi zone and other stakeholders of Nepal have coordinated with tourism entrepreneurs of the Indian state of West Bengal for the promotion of tourism of both countries.
ILAM, August 26: The ongoing Gorkhaland movement in Darjeeling of India has triggered inflation in the Nepali markets in the eastern region bordering India. The rate of everyday necessities such as rice, pulses and oil has soared up, locals informed. Indian consumers have been carrying goods from the Nepali markets. There is general strike in Darjeeling for the last 72 days.
Every year, Ropain Jatra is celebrated after the completion of rice plantation to rejuvenate from the stress and workload one faces during the plantation time. This year, it was celebrated on Thursday in Ilam.

ILAM, July 22: The market places have remained closed. However, the movement of Indian customers has not seized yet. They come all the way from Indian hill town Darjeeling to purchase goods of daily necessities at Indian border Pashupatinagar.
ILAM, July 21: The market is closed, but the crowd of buyers from across the border does not seem to lessen. The shopkeepers do not find a break from selling food items -- from salt and oil to pulses and rice. These, the buyers get transported to their homes in India by private vehicles, human porters, or horse-back.

Such an election result was unexpected as popularity of such parties has been on the rise in the region of late.

ILAM, July 9: Death toll in fresh violence in Darjeeling has reached four. Aasha Kumar, who had received police bullets on Saturday during the Gorkhaland Movement in Darjeeling of West Bengal in India, succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning.
ILAM, July 8: Three more people supporting the Gorkhaland movement were killed in police firing in India"s West Bengal State on Friday and Saturday. Security personnel fatally shot the supporters of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) during their rally demanding a separate state of "Gorkhaland" for the Nepali-speaking communities.

ILAM, July 8: Himalaya Karmacharya, Ilam district chairperson of Nepali Congress, had filed his candidacy for the second Constitutional Assembly (CA) elections of 2013 from constituency no 1 of IIam. But unfortunately he was defeated. Karmarcharya, who was the mayor of Ilam from 1987 to 1989, had also filed his candidacy for the same post in 1997 but was defeated back then.
