Army to hold marathons to mark army day and Maha Shivaratri

KATHMANDU, Feb 15: Nepal Army is to organise open marathon in the Capital on March 5 to mark upcoming Nepal Army Day and Maha Shivaratri.

Aimed at developing sports and encouraging athletes, the competition will be divided into five different categories including—male marathon, male and female half marathon among others, the army said.Starting from the army headquarters, the 42. 195 kilometre-marathon will make a round of Bhaktapur Durbar square before ending at the starting point.

Likewise, 21 kilometre- male and female half marathon will end at the army headquarters after passing through Tinkune and Maharajgunj.

The marathon winners will be given away with Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 each respectively. Likewise, under 21 kilometres half-marathon, the winners will be awarded with Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 each respectively.

Around 7000 participants are expected to partake in the event.

Meanwhile on the occasion, those athletes participating in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games in India including the winners will also be honoured, the army said. RSS
