KATHMANDU, May 5: Nepal Army has asked all retired military health workers to stand ready for recall to duty.
A meeting chaired by Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa made a decision to this effect. According to the Public Relations Directorate of Nepal Army, the retired military health workers have been asked to remain on standby for the recall to duty as and when asked.

Army Spokesperson Santosh Ballav Paudel said Nepal Army has been forecasting its additional role it may have to play and making necessary preparations for the implementation of various plans in view of the rising cases of COVID-19 infection in the country. The decision to ask all retired military health workers to stand ready for a recall to duty is a part of its preparations to tackle the pandemic.
The government has entrusted the army with the responsibility of developing necessary health infrastructures for isolation facilities and managing the dead bodies of those dying of COVID-19.
