MAKWANPUR, July 22: CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya has said that his party may forge an alliance with former king Gyanendra Shah to “safeguard national interests”.

Speaking at a press meet in Makwanpur on Monday, Baidya said his party may forge an alliance with the former king to check increasing foreign interference in the country´s affairs. He also said that there would be an alliance between his party and the former king only if the latter accepts the Maoist´s idea of nationalism.

Baidya also said that his party was positive about holding talks with the government but that it would hold no talks on Constituent Assembly elections to be conducted by an “unconstitutional” government.

“This government was not formed on a constitutional basis. Hence, the election to be conducted by the government would not be acceptable to us. We will obstruct the election will all our force,” he said.

“Dissolution of the incumbent government and roundtable conference are our preconditions for participation in the CA elections,” he said. He also said that there would be no point in holding election without the participation of all the parties.

Baidya also ruled out possibility of unification with the UCPN (Maoist). “Unification is possible only if they correct their past mistakes,” he said.
