KATHMANDU, August 9: Human Rights Alliance has demanded action against those responsible for the death of children drowned in ditches in different parts of the country.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the alliance urged the government to punish the contractors as soon as possible. Besides that, the alliance has also urged the government to ensure compensation to the victims' families.

Recently, four children in Garuda Municipality-4 of Rautahat and one girl in Manamaiju Municipality of Kathmandu died after falling into open pits.

Despite the fact that innocent children have been repeatedly trapped to death due to the negligence of the concerned authorities, the government is unable to bring them under the legal ambit. Contractors and staff from the Department of Roads have come under scrutiny for leaving the ditches open after constructing roads.

The alliance has also insisted on mobilizing necessary mechanism for ensuring safety before causing human causalities in the coming days.
