TAPLEJUNG, June 23: Sidinwa Rural Municipality in Taplejung has announced a 50 percent subsidy on electricity bills for households consuming up to 50 units of electricity per month from the fiscal year 2083/84.
The announcement was made by Rural Municipality Chairperson Man Bahadur Rai while presenting the policy and programs for the upcoming fiscal year during the municipality's 19th Village Assembly held on Sunday. The local government expects the scheme to provide direct relief to low- and middle-income families.
Homestay not attracted by subsidy
According to Information Officer Rudra Begha, more than 2,500 households in the municipality are expected to benefit from the program. He said only families consuming up to 50 units of electricity per month will be eligible, while those exceeding that limit will not receive the subsidy.
Chairperson Rai also unveiled a range of agricultural programs aimed at boosting self-sufficiency, encouraging farmers and increasing local production under the slogan, "One Household, One Kitchen Garden, Organic Vegetables."
He said the municipality would continue laboratory services under the "Healthy Soil, Healthy Produce, Healthy Kitchen, Healthy Life" program. The municipality will also encourage the production and use of organic fertilizers and provide subsidies for livestock farming.
Meanwhile, the rural municipality has announced a budget of Rs 530.826 million for the upcoming fiscal year. Vice Chairperson Krishna Kumari Kandariya presented the budget during the Village Assembly.
The municipality said priority has been given to electricity subsidies, increased agricultural production, promotion of organic farming and programs aimed at improving the living standards of local residents.
