'A separate River Act needed to stop river erosion'

KATHMANDU, JULY 4: Member of Parliament from the CPN (Maoist Center) Gopi Bahadur Sarki ‘Achhami’ has said that a separate River Act is needed to stop the erosion of the rivers in the country. Speaking at a special sitting of the National Assembly on Monday, MP Achhami said that excavations were being carried out in rivers haphazardly and illegally.

He said that there should be a provision of river act to control the loss of arable land and houses by extracting ballast and sand. He said that the budget for emergency river control was zero and demanded that the budget in the emergency river control fund be arranged.
