Two more police officers suspended

Two more police officers have been suspended on the Nirmala Panta’s rape and murder case. Sub Inspector Harasingh Dhami and Police Constable Chadani Saud were suspended by the Police Headquarters, Police Spokesperson Sailesh Thapa told Republica Online.  

NCP secretariat meeting fails to make headway over party’s unification at local levels

The meeting failed to make headway over finalizing party’s unification process at the provincial and district levels, leaders participated in the meeting said adding that the next meeting of the secretariat is scheduled for Wednesday. Jhalanath Khanal, a leader of the NCP, told Republica that the meeting dwelt on the issue of finalizing party’s unification process at the provincial and district levels though no concrete decision has been made to this effect.

Tobacco kills 7 million people every year

Over 7 million people die every year due to tobacco consumption. According to data posted by World Health Organization  on its official Twitter over 12 percent of deaths of all people aged over 30 are due to tobacco which comes around 7 million people every year globally.Posting the data, WHO has stated that global annual costs from tobacco use are USD 1.4 trillion in healthcare expenditure and lost productivity from illness and premature death.

Americans Nordhaus, Romer win Nobel Economics Prize

Americans William Nordhaus and Paul Romer won the 2018 Nobel Economics Prize for work in integrating climate change and technological innovation into economic analysis, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said on Monday.  Worth 9 million Swedish crowns (765,755 pounds), the economics prize was established in 1968. It was not part of the original group of five awards set out in Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel’s 1895 will.

The Juventus striker is facing claims from an LA-based model, who says he raped her nine years ago and talked her into a $375,000 non-disclosure agreement. UN report on global warming carries life-or-death warning

The Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued its gloomy report at a meeting in Incheon, South Korea. In the 728-page document, the U.N. organization detailed how Earth’s weather, health and ecosystems would be in better shape if the world’s leaders could somehow limit future human-caused warming to just 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit (a half degree Celsius) from now, instead of the globally agreed-upon goal of 1.8 degrees F (1 degree C).
