UDAYAPUR, Dec 24: Udayapur police have confiscated a significant quantity of sugar and tobacco during an attempted illegal import. A team from Belsrot Police Station, situated in Katari Municipality-1 at the western border of the district, intercepted 40 sacks of sugar and eight sacks of tobacco destined for illegal import.

Tobacco import via Birgunj increases

BIRGUNJ, Aug 12: The import of tobacco via Birgunj border has increased by 68 percent in Fiscal Year 2016/17, in comparison with the previous fiscal year. According to the Birgunj Custom Office, 7, 803 tons of tobacco entered via Birgunj border in FY2016/17 while only 1,128 tons had entered in FY2015/16.

Tobacco imports on the rise

BIRGUNJ, June 8: Import of tobacco has increased by nearly 49 percent in the current fiscal year compared to figures of Fiscal Year 2015/16.

KATHMANDU, May 8: The government, in its bid to discourage the tobacco consumption, is coming up with a mandatory provision for giving a cent percent space to the health warning messages onto packets of tobacco products. Such provision will come into effect from 2018 AD.

A Cabinet decision on Thursday approved the proposal after five years of the Tobacco Product (Control and Regulatory) Act 2011.
