33-party alliance banda cripples life across country

Vehicles torched, suspicious objects recovered across country



KATHMANDU, Nov 11:
Public life across the country including the Kathmandu valley has come to a standstill on Monday due to general strike enforced by the 33-party alliance led by the CPN-Maoist.



Educational institutions, marketplaces, industries and public transport have remained closed across the country. Despite government’s assurance of providing compensations, very few numbers of vehicles are plying on the roads.[break]



However, vehicles of Nepal police, media organisations, human rights organizations and diplomatic missions, ambulances and tourist vehicles are running.



Vehicles torched, vandalized



According to our Dolakha correspondent Ramesh Khatiwada, cadres of  the CPN-Maoist torched two vehicles which were being parked at Pakhalati of Bhimeshwor Municiplaity on Sunday night.



CPN-Maoist cadres set the two buses (Ba 2 Kha 1806) and (Ba 2 Kha 3534) of Araniko Yatayata on fire as the assistant drivers and helpers were sleeping inside. However, they  managed to come out of the bus unhurt. The fire has caused major damage in the buses.



According to our Kavre correspondent Madhusudan Guragain, banda organizers hurled a petrol bomb at a bus this morning.The bus (Ba 3 Kha 203)came under attack at Patlekhet of district while the bus was heading to Kathmandu from Ghurmi. However, the incident has caused minor damage in the bus.



Meanwhile, police have recovered suspicious objects in various places like Shrikhandapur, Raviopi, Panchalkhal, Khawa, Mahadevsthan and Rayabari.



According to our Sarlahi correspondent Santosh Singh, a suspicious Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has been recovered at Laxiiniya-7, Kantibazar of Mahottari district this morning. According to Inspector Deepak Giri at Area Police Office at Gaushala, a Nepal Army bomb disposal team has been deployed to defuse the bomb.



Likewise, a motorbike belonging to a CPN-UML cadre has been torched in Hariwan of the district in Sunday night. An unidentified gang torched the CBZ bike of Shambhu Mainali at Hariwan-6 threatning the bike owner with sharp weapons and iron rod while Mainali was returning home. The bike has been reduced to ashes due to the incident.



According to our Siraha correspondent Mithilesh Yadav, a socket bomb and other suspicious objects have been recovered  in Ganesh Chwok and Shiva Chwok at Lahan of the district on Sunday evening. A Nepal Army bomb disposal team is preparing to defuse the bomb now.



According to RSS, unidentified people have torched and vandalized three parked vehicles here last night. The vehicles set on fire include a Santro car (Ba 4 Cha 2432) belonging to Shambhu Ghimire, an inhabitant of Kavre. The car was parked on the main road in front of the gate to the Triton College at Subidhanagar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 35. The car´s engine is totally damaged by fire.



Similarly, unidentified people vandalized two vehicles (Ba 3 Cha 7827 and Ba 6 Cha 5511) parked near the Apollo School at Subidhanagar last night, according to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Naya Baneshwar.



Likewise, IED have been found in different places of Nuwakot in course of the general strike called by the poll-opposing 33-party alliance led by CPN-Maoist.



The bombs found at Bidur and Battar have been disposed of by Nepal Army. Likewise, a pressure cooker bomb has been found planted at the premises of the UCPN (Maoist) office in the district.



Similarly, different types suspicious looking objects have been found at the premises of Adarsha Multiple Campus and Devighat-Galchhi Road Section and Nepal Army has been verifying whether or not the suspicious looking objects are bombs.





A meeting of the 33-party alliance Sunday had decided to enforce general strike only on Monday and impose transport strike for nine days starting Tuesday. Earlier the alliance had announced to enforce general strike for 10 days with a view to disrupt the ongoing election process.
