Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic, Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party and Sadbhawana Party decided not to join the government following a meeting of United Democratic Madhesi Front held at the office of Sadbhawana Party in the capital, Friday.[break]
“Three parties represented in the UDMF decided to remain in the opposition and play a constructive role for concluding the peace process and writing the constitution,” TMDP Joint general-secretary Jitendra Sonal told Republica.
Madhesi People´s Rights Forum, Nepal has however indicated that it could join the UML-Maoist coalition although the party abstained from voting in parliament.
“We can mull over joining the government if commitments are made to address the issues of Madhes and to write the constitution on time,” MPRF, Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav told Republica.
Likewise, a leader of Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party, Nepal said the party may join the UML-Maoist coalition. TMDP-Nepal had voted for MPRF-Democratic Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar during the prime ministerial election on 3 February.
Meanwhile, the UDMF took strong exception to the Election Commission´s decision to resume the voters´ registration process on the basis of citizenship certificates only and said it would launch protest against such decision if needed.
