KATHMANDU, Jan 7: The Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) has said the report of the Local Body Restructuring Commission made public recently was not acceptable to it.

TMLP made it clear through a press release today that the report on the restructuring of the local bodies which was recently submitted to the government ignored the population as the main basis of restructuring.

"The outline on the restructuring of local bodies as recommended by the report is not acceptable to the Madhes as it goes against the main principle of federal state restructuring and Article 56 (4) and (5), and Article 295 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal itself," the party stated in the press release.

The press release issued by party's senior vice-president Hridayesh Tripathi further states – "The structure that has been recommended is not acceptable to us as it is against the main principle although it is known to all that the local bodies and special, protected or autonomous areas fall under the jurisdiction of the provinces in keeping with the accepted theory of coordination among the federal, province, local bodies and special protected or autonomous area in terms of federal state restructuring."

The LBRC submitted its report to the government on Friday. The Commission has recommended 719 local units. RSS
