KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Israeli authorities selected a total of 2,200 Nepali auxiliary workers to work in the caregiver sector of Israel.
They were selected through a live broadcast of the lottery at an event that was conducted on Thursday. The event was organized at the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) office in Jerusalem, Israel, and was participated by key officials of Israel.

The selected number to work in caregivers consisted of 60 percent females and 40 percent males. The random selection was conducted in the presence of Moshe Nakash, director of Immigration in Israel.
The Embassy of Israel in Nepal, along with Ministry officials and media persons, joined the live broadcast, to ensure the transparency and fairness of the selection process. Following the selection, the candidates will undergo the final phase of medical check-ups. Those who are confirmed to be physically fit will travel to Israel in batches, starting in September 2024.
This event marks a significant step in the ongoing cooperation between Nepal and Israel, reads a press release issued by the Embassy of Israel. Both the parties are committed to maintaining equity throughout the process and anticipate that the near future agreements will be established through the existing dialogue mechanism between the two countries. These new agreements are expected to include workers in the home caregiving sector and agriculture sector.
Last month, Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Hanan Godder, shared that the number of Nepali workers going to work as caregivers in Israel has increased notably in recent years. In a meeting with the newly-appointed Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, the Israeli envoy said the country will be recruiting 2,000 Nepali workers as caregivers soon.
