KAPILVASTU, March 23: Protests and a partial shutdown following the Bagdaga temple incident have led to the arrest of six more individuals in Kapilvastu, police said.

Four people were detained from the district headquarters, Taulihawa, and two from Krishnanagar by Monday afternoon. Among those arrested are leaders of a Hindu nationalist organization.

The demonstrations were called by the group after a multi-party meeting at the District Administration Office on Sunday failed to address their demands. The initial incident occurred on Saturday morning in Bagdaga during Eid prayers, when loud devotional music played near a Kali temple sparked tensions. Videos later circulated showing stone-throwing and vandalism at the temple.

Police have filed cases against six individuals for the vandalism, while legal action is underway against four others involved in the protests. During crowd control, police reportedly fired shots, injuring four people, three of whom are receiving treatment in Bhairahawa and one at Chitwan Medical College.

The Kapilvastu District Administration Office has appealed to all parties to refrain from activities that could disturb communal harmony. Officials emphasized that the ongoing legal process is addressing the incident and treatment of the injured is being provided, urging the public not to spread rumors or organize further shutdowns.
