KATHMANDU, Oct 28: A majority of members of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) have unlocked the association’s central office in Satdobato, Lalitpur, in an effort to resolve the ongoing crisis faced by Nepali football.

Led by Senior Vice President Bir Bahadur Khadka, the members opened the locked office on Wednesday and announced that an executive committee meeting would be held on October 30.

Khadka said the meeting had been called to address problems in Nepali football and resume activities that have remained stalled.

According to Khadka, ANFA’s statute allows members to initiate a meeting on the 22nd day if more than one-third of executive committee members request a meeting and the association fails to convene it within 21 days. He said the office was unlocked and preparations for the meeting began in accordance with this provision.

The meeting is expected to discuss FIFA’s suspension of Nepali football, cooperation with the government and obstacles in elections at various levels of the association. Khadka said resolving the dispute and resuming regular football activities would be the main priorities.

He urged ANFA President, the senior vice president, the general secretary and all executive committee members to attend the meeting and work towards a solution. He said the objective was not to remove any office-bearer or exclude anyone, but to find a way out of the crisis facing Nepali football.

FIFA suspended Nepali football citing third-party interference, disrupting football activities in the country. ANFA President Pankaj Bikram Nembang and General Secretary Kiran Rai face allegations of financial irregularities and match-related misconduct. The District Government Attorney’s Office, Lalitpur, had filed a charge sheet against the duo and two other office bearers on October 8 and the cause is sun judice. The latest initiative seeks to resolve the dispute from within ANFA, with attention now focused on whether the October 30 meeting can help end the stalemate.
