17 die in separate road mishaps

DADELDHURA, May 18: Seventeen persons were killed and dozens others were injured in two separate accidents that took place in Doti and Makwanpur districts on Monday.

A bus belonging to Mahakali Yatayat heading to Darchula from Mahendranagar skidded off the road at Gaira Bazar in Doti district, and plunged nearly 100 meters.

"Eight passengers have died till Monday evening," said Yogendra Bahadur Thapa, chief of District Police Office (DPO), Dadeldhura. He also informed that dozens of passengers have remained injured. According to DPO Chief Thapa, the reason behind the accident and details are yet to be ascertained.Likewise, nine persons were killed and 11 others were injured when a passenger bus travelling to Narayangadh from Birgunj collided with a truck coming from opposite direction at Ramantar village, Manhari VDC-3, Makwanpur district on the East-Highway.

According to DSP Shishu Sharma, spokesperson of District Police Office (DPO), Makwanpur, 11 passengers who were injured in the accident have been sent to Bharatpur of Chitwan district for treatment.

The detail about the accident has yet to come out, DSP Sharma added.
