KATHMANDU, Jan 24: A total of 167 Nepali workers have died in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the past six months in the course of foreign employment.
According to the data from the Nepali Embassy in the UAE, 30 Nepalis died in the UAE in Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) – the first month of the current fiscal year, followed by 32 in Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September), 33 in Asoj (mis-September to mid-October), 35 in Kartik (mid-October to mid-November), 24 in Mangsir (mid-November to mid-December) and 13 in Poush (mid-December to mid-January) of the fiscal year 2024/25.
22 Nepali workers stranded in UAE since two months
An average of 27 Nepali workers died in the UAE every month during the review period. In the last fiscal year 2023/24, a total of 231 Nepalis lost their lives in the UAE. That year, an average of 19 Nepalis died in the UAE every month.
Nepalis in the UAE have been losing their lives due to road and workplace accidents, heart attacks, and heart-related diseases, the embassy added.
