SUNDERLAND, England, Dec 13: Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo scored an early goal from which struggling Sunderland never recovered as Watford won 1-0 Saturday and provisionally moved to seventh in the Premier League.

Ighalo struck in the fourth minute for the Hornets with his 10th goal of the season — a low right-footed shot at a wintry Stadium of Light.Newly promoted Watford set a club record of seven Premier League wins in a season while Sunderland stayed in the relegation zone with 12 points from 16 games.

The visitors took the lead when fullback Allan Nyom combined with Almen Abdi down the right. Abdi moved the ball to Ighalo, whose sliding effort rolled past the stranded Costel Pantilimon.
