KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Police have arrested four individuals in Bhaktapur on charges of attacking a police personnel with a knife while attempting to evade arrest.
Those taken into custody have been identified as Sagar Shankar Seti, 26, Tripurasundari Rural Municipality–2 in Sindhupalchok, currently residing in Duwakot, Bhaktapur; Santosh Dulal, 25, of Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality–7, now living in Tathali, Bhaktapur; Birendra Malik, 20, of Siraha’s Sikkipur Municipality–8, also residing in Tathali; and Abhay Tuladhar,27, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City–27.
According to police, the incident occurred while police personnel were trying to apprehend suspects involved in motorcycle theft on January 7. It has been known that one of the attackers had absconded from prison during the Gen Z movement on September 9.
Four arrested for attacking police, vandalizing police station
During the operation, a police personnel was critically injured after he was severely attacked by the knife on his back.
The attack took place at around 4:00 PM on Wednesday inside a restaurant near Nalagumba in Suryabinayak Municipality–10, Bhaktapur.
A five-member police team led by Inspector Hem Thapaliya from the Crime Investigation Department of Bhaktapur District Police Office had moved in to arrest the suspects when Police Sub-Inspector Sanjib KC was stabbed.
SI KC sustained serious injuries to his right back and chest and was immediately taken to Khwopa Hospital in Chyamasingh for initial treatment.
Police have seized the motorcycle used by the suspects and the knife allegedly used in the attack.
The arrested individuals are currently being held at the Bhaktapur District Police Range for further investigation, police said.
